Freedom Rider: Gangster Giuliani
by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley
Black New Yorkers remember Rudy Giuliani well - the race-baiting, gangster-mayor who unleashed police goon (and death) squads on suddenly Constitution-free Black neighborhoods. Almost single-handedly, Giuliani destroyed the myth of white New Yorker liberalism, while at the same time enhancing the city's reputation for corruption. Yet, this petty- and mean-minded former prosecutor is a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, due to "his warmongering and inclination to inflict physical pain on dark people." Rudy Giuliani in the Oval Office - a man who held a press conference to inform his wife he was divorcing her for a younger woman - is a "nightmare scenario."
